The reconstruction of West Clay Street improves access and traffic flow through the corridor. Complete pavement reconstruction provides a smooth driving surface for motorists and new sidewalk and a multi-use path enhances accommodations for pedestrians and bicyclists. Droste Road was relocated to consolidate two closely spaced signalized intersections into one intersection, greatly improving traffic flow through the corridor. Relocating the intersection necessitated the demolition of three commercial buildings and five residential buildings, which required multiple public meetings and other outreach.

As part of the project, utility conduits were installed to relocate all the existing aerial utility lines underground. Extensive coordination was completed with the respective utility companies to provide a design that met the requirements for their facilities throughout the corridor. Undersized storm sewer systems, which created drainage issues, were replaced with new inlets and pipe network. These systems were designed to tie into existing drainage systems with minimal modifications to the downstream stormsewer network.
