The American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) advocates and educates to strengthen the engineering profession. Oates Associates is proud to be longstanding members of ACEC National, ACEC Illinois and ACEC Missouri.  Through the various board and committee level positions that leadership at Oates Associates has held, we are able to further the advancement of engineering.  This continues as Bruce Schopp, President/Chief Operating Officer at Oates Associates has been elected as the 2018-2019 ACEC Illinois Chair-Elect.

In this position, Bruce aids in promoting infrastructure funding, advancing business practices, supporting committees and collaborating with agency clients. Bruce has served on the board since 2010.  He serves in a dual role this year as he continues his term as the Secretary/Treasurer in addition to his newly elected Chair-Elect position.

Bruce, a licensed Professional and Structural Engineer, brings over 35 years of engineering experience and oversees all operations at Oates Associates, including project selection and management, technical production, Quality Assurance, and staff and client development. He provides guidance for the Transportation and Facilities Group in their strategic visions, and is a technical resource for the firm’s civil and structural engineers.

With over 5,000 member firms nation-wide, ACEC is the voice of the engineering industry. The organization strives to support member firms to advance their practice of consulting engineering, promote the image and effectiveness of ACEC to the public, and maintain a strong governmental affairs program.
