BaratHaven, Shaw and Oak Knoll Parks represent three past works of Bill Burke’s that are passive in nature, greenway oriented and of different eras with two being mature and one being recently completed. The common factor of all three projects includes the development of open space where greenway users can connect with their natural environment in a unique way as they exercise or recreate. BaratHaven includes the restoration of wetlands, savannahs, prairie plantings and woodlands to develop an experience that is pastoral in nature, educational in theme and embraces an indigenous atmosphere. Lessons learned on BaratHaven for future park development would include the earlier engagement of the landscape contractor and inclusion of specialists with regards to prairie development.
