Rend Lake College developed a strong track & field program despite having no track facilities on their campus. However, team practices were an inconvenience. Practices were held in open fields, on local roads or at area high schools.

To accommodate the needs of the team, a new 400-meter, eight-lane, Olympic-configuration track was constructed. The track was designed with a soccer infield and a field event area. Features include a steeplechase pit, javelin runway, hammer and discus cage, shotput circle, long-jump and triple-jump runways, high-jump and pole vault areas.

Oates Associates provided survey, site design and construction administration services for the new facility. Our plans included grading, drainage facilities and a 4-acre retention pond.
