In order to serve a rapidly growing residential population, the local school district built a new high school consisting of 300,000 square feet of classroom, administrative and recreational buildings which was designed to accommodate up to 2,500 students. Oates Associates was hired to provide site engineering services for the 40-acre site. Site design included utilities, roads, sidewalks, athletic fields, tennis courts and parking for over 800 vehicles. Additional services included a traffic study and design of traffic signals, a practice track and field facility and a pedestrian underpass—allowing students to avoid crossing a heavily traveled county road.

Under subsequent contracts, we provided design and construction engineering for the 50-acre athletic fields annex located immediately south of the high school site. These services included construction of drainage systems and parking lot improvements. The project included shallow ditches between playing fields and two detention ponds to accommodate the increase in runoff from the new asphalt parking surface. Parking lot improvements included construction of an asphalt lot with concrete curbs along the outer margins and curbed islands within the 400-space lot.
