Our Experience

Oates Associates is a full service, multi-disciplinary planning and design firm. We provide a variety of services throughout the region, focusing on governmental agencies, developers, institutions and corporations. Our staff includes registered professionals providing services for planning, engineering, architecture and landscape architecture. In addition, Oates Associates has LEED certified architects and engineers to ensure that sustainability and environmentally sensitive solutions are integrated and seamless.

Engineering

Oates Associates provides civil and structural engineering services. Our civil engineers have experience in roadway design and site planning for a variety of clients in both the public and private sectors. Our structural staff has designed over 60 bridges in the last 20 years, from small stream crossings to major interstate interchange structures and from rehabilitations and replacements to new structures. Hydraulic design for new bridges and replacements is performed in-house by experienced hydraulic engineers. In addition to bridge design, we have provided structural design for many of the major Metro-East building projects listed previously.

Oates Associates is prequalified to perform services for the Illinois Department of Transportation and the Illinois Capital Development Board. In Missouri, we are prequalified to perform services for the Missouri Department of Transportation, the City of St. Louis Board of Public Service and the Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District.

Planning

Specific planning related services for Oates Associates include comprehensive planning, land use planning, transportation planning, recreational planning, and infrastructure planning. Our experience in the transportation planning sector includes traffic planning, traffic studies including intersection design studies, and traffic signal design. Scale of projects range from the development of interstate highways to the development of transportation plans for municipalities. Three members of our staff are certified as Professional Traffic Operations Engineers (PTOE) and have been involved in intersection design studies for a number of roadway improvements (including roundabout intersections), development related studies and growth planning studies for municipalities.

Site planning services have been provided for a number of the major public and private building projects in the Metro East region. Public projects include Regional Headquarters, Convention Centers, Museums, Universities and High Schools. Private developments include business parks, recreation centers, hotels, industrial parks and banking facilities. We have completed projects for 1 acre sites and projects for 1,500 acres.

Recreational planning projects are a significant part of our practice as well. We have provided planning and site design services for roads, parking, playgrounds, campgrounds and hiking trails in parks throughout the region. In addition, we have designed over 50 miles of bike trails and greenways in Illinois and over 40 miles of trails and greenways in Missouri.

Architecture and Landscape Architecture

Our newest professional services include architecture and landscape architecture. With experience in commercial, retail, institutional, recreational and municipal facilities, Oates is able to serve a variety of markets and project types.

As a continuation of the Oates philosophy on quality and service, our architectural staff provides sustainable solutions for facility additions, renovations or replacements for some of our longest tenured clients. In addition, Oates is able to deliver conceptual solutions through contract drawings for new construction and replacement facilities.

Our Landscape Architectural project types include streetscapes, parks and recreation and open space developments. Our licensed professionals are experienced with the design opportunities for both hardscapes and softscapes and the connection between the two.
